Obituary of David C. Butler
THURMAN: David C. Butler, Sr. went home to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026 at his home in Thurman.
Family left to remember him are his wife, Rebecca; daughters Lisa (Pat), Kim (Bill), Crystal (Kevin); son David Jr and 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, with one more expected in July.
He loved animals & the outdoors & long evenings filled with television, guitar playing & conversation.
He was genuinely interested in getting to know people & as a minister, sought to aid his community in whatever ways he could.
Dave fought a long & courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Our family cannot thank & praise CR Wood Cancer Center in GF, his oncologist, Dr. Charles Yun, all the nurses, lab workers, technicians, secretarial staff enough for their compassionate care during Dave’s journey. Also, his primary care team at HHHN, Janine Gadjo & staff.
Dave’s favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me.”
We, as a family would like to share 2 Timothy 4: 7&8 – Paul’s words of hope –
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing”
“First Day in Heaven”
Waking up in my Savior’s embrace – to welcome me home
I’ve never had a hug so comforting & safe
There’s David & Moses & Abraham
Oh my – the mother-in-law!
I can walk upright without a hitch
Can breathe a full deep breath – no coughs
Able to eat a full meal – Oh the feast that is before me
And the coffee – pun intended – is Heavenly!
The horses I will ride – The steeds of God’s stable
Riding with Jesus – discussing His Word
So deep – yet so simple
The sharpness of the sword – The love of His living Word
This log cabin – way back in the woods
Yard filled with deer
A little green ranger
A trip around the loop
Alas as I wake, I know I must wait
I’m not done yet – more work to do
Until I AM calls me – to wake in my Savior’s embrace
I will carry on
I AM has called me home
I am finally free
I will see you all again
In eternity
