Obituary of Stephen P. Baker

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

BOLTON LANDING: Stephen Baker, aged 54 passed peacefully in his home next to his loving wife of 34 years on January 3, 2026.

He leaves behind broken hearts of his wife Kelly, daughter and two sons, his infant granddaughter and his daughter-in-law, his mother and sister, niece and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother and his father, who also passed away far too young.

Stephen was said to be one of the “good ones,” a guy who would help anyone who needed help. He shared his vast skills in carpentry, mechanics, and equipment operation and firematics. He served as Assistant Chief. Line officer, and fireman of the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. Also, he was a Boy Scout assistant pack leader in Ticonderoga for 2 years. Spending most of his working life as a builder in the family business, he later went to work for NY State DOT and became a supervisor within a couple of years.

Stephen was an open-minded man who accepted people as they are, and was always willing to lend a helping hand and show someone how something is done. Many people have fond memories of him training them in a firetruck or on an excavator, or snow plow for New York State. Stephen loved the men he worked with, and would rather be out joking in the yard than sitting up in his office on break.

He dearly loved his pets, and they loved him back with the deepest returned feelings. Stephen was a man’s man, who would love to talk hunting, NASCAR, building, cars and trucks. He was also a caring, loving husband who indulged his wife’s every whim and never belittled her creativity. He loved to see new places and enjoyed both nature and cultural events.

There is now a big void in this county where Steve gave his energy to safety and rescue. His wife, children and extended family will miss him intensely, as he was the rock of the family structure.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bolton Volunteer Fire Department Scholarship Fund.

Friends may call on Stephen’s family from 11am – 1pm and 4pm – 7pm, Friday, January 9, 2026 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY.  A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11am, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Sacrament Episcopal Church, 4879 Lake Shore Drive, Bolton Landing, NY.
