Steve will always be in my heart and cause me to smile. His gentle and giving nature drew me to him and generated a great friendship from the start. I could write so many stories to share about Steve. Here's a couple that are not only amusing yet showed his caring nature: when Steve was my trainer in Bolton Volunteer Fire Company to be an operator on Engine 338 we had some fun. E338 is a mini-pumper. It is our last standard stick shift vehicle. It weighs approximately 18k pounds. He demanded I stop on the steepest part of the hill on Mohican Road. I did. He told me to get it going again. I did. He then told me to stop and use the crawling gear (granny gear) and not to use any gas pedal. This went against all my years of driving stick. I used the gas when I let out the clutch. He yelled "I told you no gas! Do it again!" I called him a few choice names which caused him to smile. I finally did it correctly and he was quite happy. I was so mad at him which also amused him.
Next story: there was a massive propane fire on Green Island. After struggling with adequate hydrant supply and the flames were above the treetops, Steve yelled to me "Rob, get the (expletive) fire boat!" which I did. After 35-1/2 hours of dealing with that fire he profusely apologized for yelling at me. I just smiled and said "Hey, the world was exploding, no prob".
Steve will always hold a special place in my heart for his calm demeanor, his unbelievable knowledge and mostly his kindness. Love you brother! We have the watch from here!

I will miss you Steve. I will miss the fact that every time I come over the house, most times you’re there and if I have a question about my car or anything else, you have the answer. The best though is at home with Kelly and your kids where you seem happiest. But the sail boat and Lake George come second. Your beautiful soul is what we all will really miss. Your great and loving family will miss you, your friends and your family at the Bolton Landing FD You will always have a presence in my life. But I will still miss you
