Obituary of Angus D. McLean

NORTH CREEK:  Angus Dan McLean, 90, of North Creek, NY passed away at his home on December 27, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Angus was born May 13, 1935 to the late Sydney and Melina (West) McLean in Johnson, VT. The family later moved to Tahawus, where Angus excelled at basketball at Newcomb Central School, graduating in 1953.

Angus enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served aboard the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA-42 as a Gunners Mate. While aboard he crossed the equator twice earning the title of Shellback. Angus worked as a Lumber Inspector in local mills, braving the elements daily with never a complaint. In June 1958 Angus married his wife of 67 years, Margaret (Leddick) McLean.

Angus loved hiking, canoeing, and camping, whether in a tent, VW pop up, or his motorhome. He was an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts with his three sons. He enjoyed reading, gardening and daily journaling. He was a communicant of the former St. James Church in North Creek. He will be remembered for his physical and mental toughness, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and superior bug killing expertise.

He is predeceased by his parents and brother Klan McLean, sister-in-law Hazel, and brother-in-law Jack Durkin.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, his children Angus Dan (Mary), Steven, Margo, Lachlan (Sharon), and Mary (Michael), seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; his sister Sydna Durkin and brother Dale McLean (Marsha) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In Dads words “Hope for the best, expect the worst, and you’ll never be disappointed.”

Friends may call on Angus’s family from 10am – 10:45am, Friday, January 2, 2026 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 3802 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. The rosary will be said at 10:45am with a  Mass following at 11am with Father John O’Kane officiating.
