Obituary of Chester J. Prouty
NORTH CREEK: We celebrate the one-of-a-kind life of Chester J Prouty, 55, of North Creek who passed this last week.
Chester was born on July 6,1970 and lived a life filled with love, family, joy as well as sticks and stones. He cherished his family, Mother Nature, making other people laugh and Harley Davidsons.
Chester graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1988 and shortly after went to Florida where he took classes to become a scuba diving instructor. After Florida he moved back home to North Creek where he built a skill set that lead him to his ultimate calling; rustic carpentry and design. Chester worked on many homes in the area, leaving little glimpses into his artistic mind scattered throughout the North East.
You could see his heart through his hands in all of his work, stone and rustic alike. Chester’s work was published in several of Ralph Kylloes rustic carpentry books. With running his own business Chester operated on his own schedule which was often to accommodate a friend in need or appreciate the beauty around him. He deeply valued his friendships and made new friends and memories everywhere he went, picking up oddly shaped rocks along the way.
His downtime was spent watching the sunrise and set at the phone booth, a special place to him on his property in Schroon Lake. Chester had a profound appreciation for the natural world, The Cathedral of the Pines, founded by his grandfather Paul Walter. Chester also loved maple syrup season and was the one who convinced his father to change from buckets to sugaring lines. He touched the hearts of many, and will be missed deeply.
He leaves behind an abundance of family and friends who will continue to cherish his memory by doing the things that he loved most.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you instead make donations to the North Country Hardship Fund in his memory.
Friends may call on Chester’s family from 4pm – 6pm, Monday, December 22, 2025 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A memorial service will take place at 6pm following visitation.
