Obituary of Richard E. Morehouse

BAKERS MILLS:  BAKERS MILLS: Richard E. Morehouse, 76, of Bakers Mills, NY, concluded his journey here on earth on October 6, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family in the home he built.

Richard was born on March 27, 1949, in Ticonderoga, NY, to the late Rita Fuller and Howard Morehouse. He graduated from Johnsburg Central School before joining the United States Air Force in 1969, serving proudly as a Sergeant Security Policeman. On a snowy November day in 1973, he married Mary E. Millington and shared a happy life with her for 52 years.

Richard worked the majority of his life at the furniture plant in North Creek, NY, until its closing, at which time he retired.

Richard’s greatest love was spending time with his beloved wife, Mary; his children, Melissa and Rick, and their spouses, whom he considered as his own; and his grandchildren, Alexander, Evin, and Keegan. He always made time for them, sharing his talents, skills, and laughter. He was also a second father to many of his nieces and nephews, teaching, lending a hand with building projects, and passing along stories and wisdom.

A practical joker at heart, Richard loved making others laugh and smile. He was known for his strong moral character, tireless work ethic, and determination—once he set his mind to a task, it wasn’t finished until it was done right. Whether it was tackling chores, crafting special gifts, helping others, or completing a puzzle, Richard gave his all.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need—family, friends, neighbors, or even strangers. If there was a way to help, Richard made it happen. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and tending to his property. His love, kindness, and steadfast support will be remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his siblings Orville Fuller and Shirley Fuller.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 52 years, Mary E. Morehouse; his children, Melissa (Jeremy) Mottram and Richard (Dawn) Morehouse; his grandchildren, Alexander Morehouse, Evin Morehouse, and Keegan Mottram; his siblings, Barbara Richards, Billy Fuller, Charlene Hitchcock, Margaret Swinton, Sandra Morehouse, Danny (Daniel) Morehouse, and Steve Morehouse; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
