Obituary of Carol H. Shippey
BOLTON: Carol H. Shippey, 76, of Bolton, NY passed away peacefully at her home on September 10, 2025.
Carol was born on September 18, 1948, in Troy, NY, to the late Albert and Margaret (Rogers) Hems. She graduated from Tamarac High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Hartwick College in 1970. Carol later received her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education from Boston University in 1972.
While attending Hartwick, Carol met Harold Shippey through the United Methodist Campus Ministry. They were married on June 14, 1969, in Center Brunswick, NY, and this year celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary together.
Carol began her nursing career at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton, MA. She taught nursing at the Junior College of Albany, from 1972 through 1976. She then joined Glens Falls Hospital, where she dedicated 34 years of service, ultimately retiring as Vice President, Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer.
In addition to her professional career, Carol was deeply committed to her community. She served, for 9 years on the Board of Directors of the Wesley Health Care System in Saratoga Springs, NYShe was a founding member of the Tri-County Literacy Center and served as a tutor. Her love of music was expressed through her Dobro playing in two bands, Red Spruce and the Adirondack Song Dogs. A master gardener with Cornell Cooperative Extension, Carol’s skills came to life in the vegetable garden she tended alongside her husband and granddaughter, Molly.
Besides her parents, Carol is predeceased by her sister-in-law Jeannie Lyons.
Celebrating her life are her loving husband, Harold Shippey; her daughter, Danielle Shippey, and son-in-law, Peter Durgin; her beloved granddaughter, Molly Durgin; her brother, Paul Hems; sisters-in-law, Lee Shippey and her husband, David Graham, and Gail (Arthur) Dorrance; and her niece, Piper Dorrance.

Carol’s family and friends are invited to gather for a Time of Remembrance at Christ Church United Methodist Church, 54 Bay St., Glens Falls, NY at 2pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025. A reception will follow the gathering.
