Obituary of Allan M. Shusterman
STONY CREEK: Allan “Al” Shusterman, 77, of Stony Creek, NY; formerly of Marlborough CT., passed away suddenly on Friday August 22nd, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Joan (Loehr) Shusterman.
Born on December 1st, 1947 in Hartford CT, he was the son of the late Samuel and Elvira (Prevatali) Shusterman. Al was raised in West Hartford, Ct. before moving to Marlborough, CT in 1978 to raise his family. Al was quite the entrepreneur, dabbling in several business ventures from art framing to retail clothing, grocery store owner to politician; restaurant server to mountain man, Al did it all. In 2003 he and Joan packed up and moved to Stony Creek, where Al finished off his career at Home Depot in Glens Falls NY.
Al had three loves in his life: his family, the beach, the Adirondacks. Whether it be flying kites and making dribbles castles at the shore or motor cycling, snowmobiling and enjoying the serenity of Stony Creek; Al shared all of these things with the people he loved. A big softy, Al played Santa for family and friends, as well as volunteering his Santa skills for civic and store events.
Al was predeceased by his brother Steven.
In addition to Joan, his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children Jennifer, of Essex, Ct and Jason Shusterman of Manchester, Ct; his brother Robert and his wife Karen Shusterman of Hull, Ma, and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. He also leaves his best friend of 65 years Aaron Furman of Thurman NY who was like a brother to him.
Al was a second dad to many, a calming force in times of turmoil and was always there to lend a hand or an ear to those who needed it. He will be greatly missed. Even the angels need a Santa Claus.
Friends may call on Al’s family from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Alexander Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg, NY. A eulogy service will follow at 5:00pm.
