Obituary of Anthony J. Trapasso
WARRENSBURG: Anthony John Trapasso Jr., son of the late Anthony and Georgianna Trapasso, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the age of 87 with family by his side.
Born in Essex, NY on September 13, 1937, he graduated from Moriah Central School and proudly served in the United States Army.
On September 19, 1958, Tony married the love of his life, Evelyn Atwell, after meeting at a roller rink. Over 63 years together they built the foundation for a very large and loving family. Along with his signature smile, he often proudly proclaimed that he and Evelyn started this whole mess as they watched a pile of kids running and playing in the yard at family events.
Tony was a hardworking man who held many roles throughout his life, including positions at Freihofer’s, SB Thomas’, Pepperidge Farm, Northend Discount, Rodney’s Restaurant, and Warren Ford. No matter the job, he brought humor and heart to everything he did.
Outside of work he was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing throughout the Adirondacks. In his younger days he loved to be throwing a ball on the diamond, into a hoop, or rolling one down the lane. Trapasso athleticism started with the best.
Later in life when Tony wasn’t out looking for a deal at garage sales, you might find him having one of his own, or at Bill’s Diner sharing coffee and stories with the guys, watching the Yankees or Giants from his recliner, playing cards on Wednesday nights, or taking long drives. He found joy in the simple things. He especially loved cheering on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at sporting events and drama productions. Win or lose, Nana and Papa were right there with a smile and a hug, filled with more love than you’d think possible.
Known for his generous heart, Mr. T would give you the last dollar in his wallet. His kindness knew no bounds, whether you were down on your luck or needed someone cheering from the side of the mat, Tony was there to offer a job or supportive word. The only thing that may rival his kindness towards others are his unforgettable one-liners (some more appropriate than others) but if you had the pleasure of knowing Tony, you knew it was only a matter of time. One of his favorites: “Who won the beauty pageant in Thurman? — No one.”
Tony was predeceased by his beloved wife, Evelyn Atwell Trapasso; sons Rodney L. Trapasso and Tony “Boom” Trapasso; granddaughter Marisa Trapasso; son-in-law Teddy L. Ackley; and siblings Joseph Trapasso and Sharon Miner.
He is survived by his children Wanda (Doug) Olden of Warrensburg, Mark (Linda) Trapasso of Warrensburg, Todd Trapasso of Marietta, Bonni (Kevin) Roth of Warrensburg, daughter-in-law Missy Trapasso of Warrensburg, along with his brother, Dominic Trapasso of Avon, Maine.
Tony was the proudest Papa to Karen (Colin) Petteys, Anthony (Shelby) Ackley, Justin Ackley, Amber (Brian) Seeley, Erin (David) Lang, Kimberly (Douglas Olden) Trapasso, Toni (Stephen) Jedlowski, Ashley (Diek) Wessling, Jeremy Taylor, Mark Anthony (Kevin) Trapasso, Abby Roth, and Kerrigan Roth.
He was also fortunate to have enjoyed time with his 29 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. From games of go-fish or connect-4, to sharing Cheetos and maple frosted doughnuts, every visit meant the world to him.
The family would like to thank RN Lynzee, at the Glens Falls Center, for her exceptional care and dedication, not only for Tony but for all the residents. Lynzee will always be an honorary Trapasso.
To honor Tony’s memory, the family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rodney Trapasso Scholarship Fund, c/o Warrensburg Scholarship Association, 103 Schroon River Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
