Obituary of Patricia Ann Steves
WARRENSBURG: Patricia A. Steves, 86, a lifelong resident of Warrensburg, NY, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at Glens Falls Hospital.
Pat was born on January 4, 1939, in Glens Falls, NY, to the late R. Ray Hayes and Flossie (Harvey) Hayes. She graduated from Warrensburg Central School in 1958 and remained a lifelong resident of Warrensburg, where just about everyone knew Pat. Over the years, she worked as a cashier in many local establishments, including Grand Union, Jacob and Toney’s, the Mobile Station, Schroon River Campground, and most notably, the two stores owned by her father: Ray’s Appliance and Ray’s Liquor Store. In addition to those roles, Pat was also well known as the Avon lady extraordinaire.
Pat could often be found making her rounds through town, picking up her favorite scratch-off tickets—never buying them all in one place, just in case she missed a lucky one. She loved playing bingo and was a familiar face at many bingo halls throughout Queensbury and Glens Falls. A devoted fan of the band Whiskey River, Pat proudly held the title of unofficial president of their fan club. She’d pack up her van with friends and hit the road to catch their shows whenever she could. But more than anything, Pat was known for her big heart. Whether you knew her as Dot, Aunt Pat, or Grandma Patty, she was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her.
Besides her parents, Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth Steves; her brother, Rick Hayes, and his wife Donna; her stepmother, Ethel Hayes; her brother-in-law, Tom Steves, and his wife Maxine; and her father- and mother-in-law, Ken and Bea Steves.
Left to cherish Pat’s memory are her siblings, Terry (Brenda) Hayes, Kim Morris, and Mary (Dubby) Hill; her brother-in-law, Jerry (Linda) Steves; her sister-in-law, Becky (Tom) Spadola; Pat also held a special place in her heart for her extended family—Kim, Connie, Lyle, and Wendy—whom she lovingly considered her own. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Pat’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her special angels—Royleen, Lynda, Patrick, Kim, Connie, Barbara, Claire, and Karen—for their love, care, and support.
Donations in Pat’s name can be made to: Warrensburg Emergency Medical Services, P.O. Box 157, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
This beautiful quote, written by Garry David, perfectly captures the essence of who Pat was. “One of the most kind and genuine souls a person could experience. Never willing to give up what she loves, and dependable no matter the time. Didn’t matter if you stopped in to say hi or gave her a hand for the day, Pat made you feel loved. The time and effort I gave her was nothing compared to the warmth she greeted me with.”
