
Obituary of Peter K. Wood
CHESTERTOWN: Peter “Pete” Kenneth Wood, 81, of Chestertown, NY, passed away peacefully on May 5th 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Pete was born in South Glens Falls, NY on May 6, 1943 to the late Kenneth Wood and Beverly Jane (Scribner) Wood. He spent two years at Penn State and graduated from University of Bridgeport where he met his love, Donna. Pete also received his 6th year degree in education from Fairfield University.
Pete married his beloved wife, Donna on August 5, 1967. The two shared nearly 58 years of a joyful, loving marriage and raised their three children in Southbury, CT. He was a dedicated father and grandfather never missing an event and always sharing his love for athletics and the great outdoors.
He was a dedicated physical education teacher in Redding, CT for over 30 years and moved back to the Adirondacks to enjoy his retirement years. Pete was an avid sportsman, enjoying hiking, skiing, hunting, fishing, canoeing and camping. He also enjoyed his Adirondack friends that hiked, played cards and traveled the world together. He was most proud of his grandchildren and eagerly attended sporting events, concerts, and endless family gatherings over the years. Pete always had special traditions with his grandchildren like tracking their growth on a measuring stick every time they visited his home. He was known for his famous handwritten notes and conversations of encouragement and advice along with a few jokes, he was never short on words.
Remaining to cherish Pete’s memory are his wife, Donna Wood; children Peter Wood (Suzy), Lori Tietjen (Rick) and Tammy Adames (Andy); grandchildren, Caitlin Wood, Alexandra Adames, Drew Adames, Wesley Tietjen and Aidan Wood. He is also survived by his brother Doug Wood (Elenor) and his family.

Friends may call on Pete’s family on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 3802 Main Street, Warrensburg, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., immediately following the visitation. Interment will follow at Warrensburg Cemetery, Hudson Street, Warrensburg, NY.
