Obituary of Richard J. O'Hara
WARRENSBURG: Richard J. O’Hara, 85 years old of Golf Course Road, Warrensburg, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Albany Medical Center.
Born on April 28, 1939 in Queens, NY, Richie was the son of the late Thomas and Lillian (McClarnan) O’Hara.
In 1961, Richie met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Mackey. The two were married on January 12, 1963. That same year, Richie joined the New York Fire Department, where he proudly served until his retirement in 1990. During his time at the station, he was not only the firetruck driver but also the designated cook, a role he took great pride in.
Richie was a lifelong member of Cronin’s Golf Club, proudly holding a membership for over 50 years. He and his wife also spent over 30 winters in St. Simons, Georgia, where they enjoyed playing countless rounds of golf on many of the area’s beautiful courses.
In addition to his parents, Richie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen, on January 4, 2012; his three brothers, Billy, Bobby, and Johnny O’Hara; and his great-grandson, Aydin Richard Wilde.
Left to cherish Richie’s memory are his children: Ed (Catherine) O’Hara, Kathleen Haller, and Richie (Angie) O’Hara; his grandchildren: Eric (Brie) Gaynair, Jennum (Lawrence) Wilde, Morgan O’Hara, Kevin Haller and his significant other Hannah Phelan, Danny Haller, Liam (Elana) O’Hara, Egan O'Hara and Aidan O’Hara. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Castor O’Hara, Tatum Wilde, Traya Gaynair, Saylor O’Hara, and Mara Jade Gaynair — with another baby boy expected this September.
Richie’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Crystal, his dedicated private home nurse, the Moreau Emergency Squad, the Glens Falls Hospital IV Infusion Center, and Dr. Cunningham for the exceptional kindness, care, and compassion they showed Richie throughout his illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richie’s name may be made to the Moreau Emergency Squad, 1583 Route 9, Moreau, NY 12828.
