North River:

Sharlene R. Freebern, 68, of Shields Road, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Elderwood at North Creek following a long illness.

Born February 9, 1957 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Hilda (Moulton) Amell.

She was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Johnsburg Central School in 1975.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her lifelong friend, Marge Donohue for the many years of friendship and care, as well as the entire JCS Class of 75 for the many memorable reunions as well as outpouring of support during her illness. Her family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff in Unit B at Elderwood at North Creek.

Sharlene enjoyed reading, tending to her flowers, birdwatching, but above all, spending time with her family and her beloved dachshunds, Jodi, Ginger, Spice, Kelsey, Brandy, and Kahlua.

She was a longtime member of the North River Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Edward Amell and Carol Billings.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Kenneth “Mike” Freebern of North River; her son, Brian Freebern and his companion, Theresa Welch of North River; siblings, Leona Bibby and her husband, Bill of North River and Glen Amell of Johnsburg; sisters-in law, Judy McConnell of Chestertown and Sharon Wells of North River; brother-in-law Reginald Freebern and his wife, Roxanne of North River; as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At Sharlene’s request, there are no calling hours scheduled.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, April 5, 2025 at the North River Firehouse, 13th Lake Rd., North River.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the North River Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
