Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LAKE GEORGE: James A. Derby, 82, one of Lake Georges premier citizens and a good friend, known to many as “Cadillac Jim”, passed away on February 16, 2025 at Albany Medical Center.
Born on October 26, 1942, to the late Ralph Derby and Marie Derby in Burlington Town Hospital near Fort Dix, N.J., his father taught him both mechanics and electronics. Jim would use that knowledge to work for many years at Van Dusen Chevrolet in Lake George Village. He later became the No. 1 flagman for the Warren County Department of Public Works.
Jim collected and drove Cadillacs all his life. Many still remain on his property in Diamond Point. He was a well-known figure in town, spending many evenings meeting new and old friends at TR’s Lounge at the Holiday Inn. He was a jokester, historian, and storyteller.
Lacking any known living relatives, his wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread around his beloved Lake George.
His many friends will carry out his wishes. 'A real nice guy' is resting in peace.
