POTTERSVILLE:  Gregory James Monroe Sr. passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 63 in Glens Falls Hospital, NY. Surrounded by loved ones.

Born on September 11, 1961. Greg was a cherished son to his late parents, Shirley (Curren) Monroe and Wilbur Monroe Jr., and a devoted husband of 37 years to his late wife, Christina (Simione) Monroe, who preceded him in death in 2024.

Greg graduated from North Warren High School in 1980. He started at The Sagamore in lawn maintenance. The Great Escape was where his talents first flourished, painting and fabricating rides and attractions, then transitioning to boats at Boats by George, where he honed his skills as one of the top fiberglass technicians in the area, dedicating over 20 years to perfecting his craft.

Beyond his professional life, Greg was a man of many passions. He was an avid bass fisherman and a NASCAR racing enthusiast, particularly a fan of Bill Elliott. In the early 80s, he also made his mark as a local short track racer. Greg enjoyed watching classic TV shows and various comedies, which he often watched with his family, creating lasting memories. An accomplished bowler, he proudly held trophies from his league in the 80s. Greg's love for family gatherings during the holidays was profound, as these occasions were filled with delicious food and lively conversations—a testament to his spirited and talkative nature.

Greg is survived by his beloved daughter, Erica Monroe and her fiancée Steve Hannigan; son, Gregory Monroe Jr. and his wife Jamie and their daughter Ava; siblings JoAnne DeJong, Tina Iverson, Derek Monroe (Lillian Hayes), Kevin Monroe (Mary), and Raymond Monroe; Several in-laws and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. His grand-pups, Odin and Loki, grand-cat Sammy will also greatly miss him.

A special thank you is extended to Mary and Zoya for their support as well.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Ryan White Program Support Group, 161 Carey Road, building 1, Queensbury, NY 12804, in memory of Greg, who greatly valued their support over the years.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held in late spring or early summer, taking advantage of the perfect fishing weather, he always loved. His laughter and love will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.
