Fort Edward:

Alicia Sylvester Busser, best known to her family and friends as Sylvie, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Fort Edward, New York, after a prolonged decline in health. She was 87 years old.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 9, 1937, Sylvie was the eldest daughter of diplomats William and Alicia Busser.

Her early years were spent moving across the world - from Mexico to Austria to England - before she settled in the United States at the age of 23, where she remained for the rest of her life. A woman of artistic spirit and deep emotion, Sylvie found solace and joy in the arts. She was a gifted painter, her brush capturing beauty as she saw it, and a passionate musician, expressing herself through song and playing the violin. Music and art were her lifelong companions, filling the spaces where words sometimes failed her.

Despite lifelong struggles with mental health, Sylvie carried a heart full of love and a desire to help others. Her faith became her anchor, and in her later years, she embraced her beliefs as a devoted Jehovah’s Witness. She found comfort and companionship within their communities in Lee, Massachusetts, Cambridge, and Glens Falls, New York.

A woman of warmth and kindness, Sylvie was loved by many and deeply cherished by those who knew her. She was elected President of the Friendly Society, a testament to her generous spirit and the high regard in which she was held.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Katherine Jeanne Busser.

She is survived by her sisters, Carol Bram (Jack), Julia du Prey (Pierre), and Anna Erik; her nieces, Sophia Erik and Beatrice du Prey; her nephew, Nicolas du Prey; and their children, who will carry forward her memory with love.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Jehovah’s Witness communities who embraced Sylvie with warmth and friendship, as well as the dedicated staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Center for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall Church in Glens Falls on Monday, February 17, at 6 PM (behind the Glens Falls Hospital). Though her song has ended, its melody lingers in the hearts of all who knew her.
