I Started with the Bureau of Forestry spring of 1980; old Forestry building on East 7th Street in Coudy. Robert P. Lewis was the first District forester I worked for. I was so young, just starting out in the world! He was a very fair person and yes you always "knew where you stood" with R. P.! I remember his "picnic every day" saying, brings a smile to my face. I remember him going out to "inspect state forest camps"and I remember his handwriting, LOL! .....After finishing my own 35 years with the Bureau and look back on that & think.....he needed to get out of the office, he needed to be in the woods. He lived a long, productive life and is remembered fondly by many Coudersport people. RIP in R. P. Lewis....until we meet again!

We will always remember Bob for his dry sense of humour. He had a real twinkle in his eye when he would tell a story and certainly had a lot of them! Even in his older years he had dreams. He had us look into the train that went across Canada a couple of years ago as he was interested in going! Trout Lake Village has lost a special man.

Bob was my first boss in the Bureau of Forestry. Bob loved brushhogging on the Kerner Tract which was an interior holding near the Hammersley Wild Area we acquired during his time. Not sure the equipment operators liked that, but Bob wouldn't care. He would put on his straw hat and be mowing every late summer afternoon. We didn't acquire much stuff back then except old vehicles that PennDOT turned in for scap. He always had a district Christmas party at his home which I continued to host after his retirement. He introduced me to Society of American Foresters and I was able to get several other foresters involved after that. That's something I will always remember about him. He had a long history of volunteer and work associations that touched many people. He was a fine DF who let you know where you stood. Condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Bob. We continue to carry your torch.

When we lived in Coudersport, my son, David, delivered Bob's newspaper and he would always be generous with him on pay day. Everytime he would drive by our house and we were outside, he would stop and say "A picnic in the woods everyday....." He was a special guy!
