Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
WARRENSBURG Mildred “Millie” Fish, a longtime resident of Warrensburg, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Glens Falls Hospital. Millie was born on November 23, 1923 in North River, New York, and raised from a very young age by her aunt and uncle, the late Mildred and Andrew Barney of Lake George. She was predeceased by her five siblings: Eva, Elaine, Douglas, Theresa and Willie. On October 6, 1946 she married Richard J. Fish in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross with the Rev. Robert E. Heron officiating. Mildred and Dick went on to share their love and lives together for over 50 years before his passing in July of 1997. She was a graduate of the Warrensburg Central School, class of 1943, and the Albany Business College, class of 1944. She worked for the Warrensburg Pulp and Paper Corporation, and in later years for Brown’s Shoe Store on Main Street in Warrensburg. She was a passionate cat lover; enjoyed reading novels and working on crossword puzzles; took great pride in her vegetable and flower gardens; and was an accomplished seamstress. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Lillian Cleveland, and her niece, Stella Vanness, both of whom she was very close to; several nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as her family of neighborhood friends on the hill. At Millie’s request there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 in the Warrensburg Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Pettigrew, pastor of the Church of the Holy Cross officiating. The family would like to thank Millie’s immediate caregivers while she remained in her home, Connie Hall, and her husband, David, for not only being compassionate and caring individuals, but also for being such good neighbors for so many years. And thanks to the staff at the Countryside Adult Home in Warrensburg, the Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury, and Glens Falls Hospital Tower 3, for their tireless efforts while Millie was entrusted to their competent care. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Millie’s name to the Warrensburg Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 157, Warrensburg, NY 12885.
