Obituary of William R. Morehouse

Bolton Landing: William R. Morehouse, 77, of Federal Hill Road., passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for over 6 years. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born August 15, 1935, in Springfield, MA to the late Rufus and Hazel (Beebe) Morehouse. Bill proudly served his country as a member of the Air National Guard. Bill came to Bolton Landing in 1973. He was Business Manager at Bolton Central School for many years. He went on to work for and retire from Community Insurance Agency in South Glens Falls, where he was Comptroller. He also operated his own payroll and tax preparation business. Bill was always proud to serve his Bolton Landing community in any way. Bill served on the Bolton Central School Board of Education for 19 years, serving as President for many of those years. Continuing his strong belief in the education system he was elected to the BOCES School Board. He served many years on the Bolton Recreation Commission, serving as Chairman for many of those years. Bill was one of the first people to introduce Little League Baseball to Bolton Landing. Bill proudly served the Boy Scouts of America and spent time as the Cub Master. Bill was a dedicated and active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Bolton Landing. He was a Lay Minister who enjoyed preaching and leading services throughout the North Country. He also spent time as the Chairman of the Administrative Council. Bill became the 1st Non Mason to receive the DeWitt Clinton Masonic Award. He also was presented as the 1st person to receive Bolton PTSA Community Service Award in 1997. An award that became even more special when his son Bob received it after him. Bill loved giving his time to the Bolton Landing community. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren. Throughout the years he enjoyed attending Adirondack Red Wings hockey games, weekly roller skating trips to relax and exercise and being the rock and foundation for his entire family. After his retirement he took care of his grandson Billy, from the time Billy was a baby until the time Bill moved back to Bolton. He moved back to Bolton in October 2011 and lived with his daughter Lori Cortis Breault and her family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Gail Morehouse, 4 children, son Robert (Jennifer) Morehouse of Queensbury; daughters Robin Lemise; Lori (Stephen) Breault and Kimberly (Michael) Markham all of Bolton Landing. His grandchildren Sgt Michael and Timothy Ryder; Mark Jr and Anthony Lemise; Todd and Lindsay Markham; Billy, Andy and Katie Morehouse; one brother Kenneth Morehouse of Springfield, MA. Bill also leaves 4 close friends, Tom Curri, John Miller, Jack and Dorothy Robinson. His very best pal (Tim’s dog) Jack, who never left his side. A very special thank you to his daughter Lori, son-in-law Stephen and grandson Tim who were his major caregivers since his return to Bolton. Many thanks are being sent out to Dr. Bryan Smead, Dr. John Stoutenburg, Dr. Christopher Dolinsky and Dr. Vincent Cooper as well as the High Peaks Hospice Team of Essex County. A Memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Stewart Avenue, Bolton Landing, on Saturday, November 17th at Noon. Friends are encouraged to come early and call on the family from 11 AM – 12 PM to celebrate Bill’s wonderful life and share stories and memories together. The Rev Bruce Tamlyn & The Rev Henry Frueh will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be sent to begin the William R Morehouse Community Service Scholarship for a Bolton Central School student annually.
