Obituary of John D. Doyle

Warrensburg:
John D. “Jack” Doyle, 88, of Grandview Avenue, formerly of Long Lake and Northport, N.Y. passed away
peacefully Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by his
loving family.
Born January 9, 1925 in Queens, he was the son of the late John J. and Madeleine
(Kappe) Doyle.
Following his graduation from Sewanhaka Central High School, Franklin Square on
Long Island, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was sent to the University of Rochester Midshipman
School. After World War II Jack remained active in the Naval Reserves for 20 years. He
eventually attained his first Masters Degree at Columbia University and his second Masters
from Alfred University. Taking his family, he also spent a year at London University where he
studied the English program for special children.
Jack was employed by the North Babylon Union Free District #3 for nearly 30 years,
retiring as the Superintendent of Special Education.
Besides spending time with his family, Jack enjoyed traveling, swimming and building
his dream home on Long Lake with his family. He was very active in his church as well as
volunteering for and becoming an Associate Brother with The Christian Brothers in Florida.
He was a communicant of St. Cecilias RC Church in Warrensburg, St. Henry’s RC
Church in Long Lake and St. Leo’s and St. John’s RC Churches in Bonita Springs, FL.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Virginia (Fenety) Doyle; their two
daughters; Marguerite Doyle-Peterson and Nancy Doyle; his sister, Madeleine Ret and
brother, Robert Doyle.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Emily Murray Doyle of Warrensburg; his
children; Patricia Macartney (Keith) of Northport and James Doyle of Fulton; three grandchildren
and two great-grandsons, four stepsons, eight step-grandchildren, and several nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on John’s family from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the
Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am, Friday at St. Cecilia’s Roman
Catholic Church with Monsignor William Harms officiating and Fr. Paul Cox and Sister Linda Hogan, co-officiating.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the
Congregations of Christian Brothers, Los Hermanos, 28290 Beaumont Road, Bonita
Springs, FL 34134, or to the St. Cecilia’s RC Church Building Fund.
