Obituary of Harold M. Corlew

North Creek / Queensbury: Harold M. Corlew, 94, formerly of Riverside and Queensbury, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2012 at Glens Falls Hospital following a brief illness. Born January 16, 1918 in Johnsburg, he was the son of the late Merton and Jennie (Parker) Corlew and was a lifelong resident of the area. Harold was a WW II US Army veteran who served in the Pacific theater of operations. Harold married Mary C. Flynn on October 14, 1940 in St. Joseph’s RC Church in Olmstedville. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years with Local 106, Operating Engineers working on such notable projects as Adirondack Northway, Plattsburgh Air Force Base and Missile Silos and Georgia Pacific in Waterville, ME before retiring in the late 70’s. Harold and Mary retired to Robert Gardens Apartments in Queensbury. The couple were communicants of St. Joseph’s Church in Olmstedville and St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. He was also a member of the Haskell Bros. Post 4821 VFW in Warrensburg and retired from the Riverside Fire Vol. Co. Besides spending time with his family, Harold’s favorite pastimes included deer and rabbit hunting, camping and snowmobiling. Besides his parents, and beloved wife, Mary of 71 years, his brothers, Lee, Curtis, Stanley, Lawrence and Merton and sisters, Sally Crossman, Clara Smith and Ruth Perkins, his son in law, Jack Liberty have all predeceased him. Survivors include his son, Thomas J. Corlew and his wife, Sue of Lehigh Acres, FL; his daughter, Joan Liberty of Fort Edward; three grandchildren: Jim VanGuilder, Joy Elms, and John Liberty; six great-grandchildren; sister in law, Marie Corlew of Glens Falls; along with several nieces, nephew and cousins. A private funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted Saturday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg with Fr. Paul Cox of St. Cecilia’s Church in Warrensburg officiating. Rite of committal will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Irishtown. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a charity of ones choice.
