Obituary of James G. Morwood

Warrensburg:
James G. Morwood, 84, of Oak Street, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home.
Born May 3, 1928 in Winooski, VT, he was the son of the late Michael and Zahia (Karraz) Abraham Morwood.
Jim graduated from Winooski High school and was attending college before enlisting in the US Navy on May 6, 1946. He proudly served his country during WW II aboard the USS Charles Ware and the USS Cone until his honorable discharge in 1948.
Jim married Genevieve Goodspeed on April 4, 1953 in North Creek and the couple resided in Warrensburg their entire time together. His beloved wife passed away on September 2, 2001 after 48 years of marriage.
Jim owned and operated Morwood’s IGA on Main St, North Creek for 47 years and was a well-respected businessman, who gave much to the communities.
He was a member of the North Creek American Legion Post 629, North Creek Volunteer Fire Department, North Creek Rotary and Chamber of Commerce, and also a 21 year member of the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Board of Directors. His community service extended to Warrensburg where he was a member of the Warrensburg American Legion Post 446 (Honorary), the Warrensburgh Lodge 425 Free and Accepted Masons. He also served as a member of the Knights Templar and also the Shriners.
Jim was a very active longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross in Warrensburg and was a Vestryman for over 30 years.
His favorite pastimes included spending time with friends, watching the New York Giants, playing cards and never missing a social event.
Besides his parents and his wife, Genevieve, his brothers: Abraham and Nick Morwood and nephew, Jimmy Morwood have also predeceased him.
Survivors include his brother, George Morwood and his wife, Emily; his daughters: Mary Baker, Sherry Davis and Penny Gray. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Jim’s family from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main Street, Warrensburg. The members of the American Legion will gather and pay their respects at 7:15 pm followed by the Masonic service being conducted at 7:30 pm during the visitation at the funeral home.
A Funeral Mass of will be celebrated 10 am Wednesday at the Church of the Holy Cross, Main St., Warrensburg with the Fr. Thomas Pettigrew, Rector officiating.
Rite of committal will follow in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Warrensburg.
