North Creek:
Frederick Richard “Ted” Kinnarney, 87, formerly of Oven Mountain Road, hit a homer over the green monster in his last inning, Sunday, May 26, 2013 with his daughters by his side.
Born December 8, 1925 in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late Michael “Harry” and Sarah “Sade” (Mullens) Kinnarney.
Ted attended St. Stephen Parochial School before graduating from Framingham High School, Class of 1943.
He enlisted in the Merchant Marines, traveling to England and Cuba. After discovering he wasn’t fond of the sea, Ted transferred to the United States Army, where he was stationed at Camp Wheeler and Fort Dix. During his time in the service, he injured his shoulder, resulting in an unsuccessful experimental surgery that troubled him throughout his life.
Upon his return as a civilian, Ted attended Champlain College in Plattsburgh on a hockey scholarship and also played on the college baseball team.
He met and married Regina Pasco in November 1955. They resided in Long Lake, where they owned and operated the Knotty Pine Lounge. The couple later relocated to Johnsburg where he ran John’s Tavern and coached several local baseball teams; he still talked fondly about “his boys”.
Throughout his working years, Ted was employed by General Electric and Montgomery Ward. He spent his retirement driving a shuttle for the Sagamore Resort and enjoyed meeting all the eclectic people along the way.
In his formative years , he loved to hit a round of golf, which he later gave up for his admiration for horses; he frequented auctions, shows, and rodeos, and was a member of the Warren County Horseman Association.
Ted was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and will be forever remembered for his wicked sense of humor and love of the game. His heart will forever live on at Fenway Park.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Regina, who died on Dec. 1, 2011 and his daughter, Keleigh Kinnarney Paulsel who passed away in 1999. His brother, Richard “Dickie” Kinnarney also died before him.
Ted is survived by two daughters, Casey TenEyck and her husband, Bill, and Erin O’Connell, all of Johnsburg; two sons, Michael Kinnarney of Stony Creek, and Kevin Kinnarney of Johnsburg; a brother, Michael Kinnarney and his wife, Sandy of MA; four grandchildren, Brittney, Dustin, Olivia, and Kody; and his beloved companion, “Hub”, his cat.
At Ted’s request there will be no calling hours scheduled.
Interment with full military honors will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, June 3, 2013 at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery, in Schuylerville.
A funeral procession will depart the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg at 9:30 am sharp, Monday for those who wish to participate.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Frederick’s name to Wounded Worriers Foundation.
