Hudson Falls:
Richard E. Freebern, 74, of Oak Street, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Glens Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 10, 1937 in North River, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Savage) Freebern.
He was a lifelong resident of the area.
After attending the Johnsburg High School, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956 and served as a Munitions Specialist in Albany, GA until his honorable discharge in 1960.
Upon returning home from the Air Force, he met and later wed his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda Bennett on August 10, 1962.
He was employed for a brief time at National Lead in Tahawus before relocating to Hudson Falls where he managed an Esso station before retiring after 32 years as a foreman at Finch Pruyn in Glens Falls.
Besides spending time with his family, Richard enjoyed playing softball, golfing, fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles, and cheering on his beloved New York Yankees.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Roger Freebern; and sisters, Jean Freebern and Barbara Warrington.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Freebern of Hudson Falls; his children: Richard A. Freebern and his companion Marylou Ranney; Michael F. Freebern, and Victoria L. Hayes, all of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren: Jacob, Aaron, and Felisha Freebern and Kyla and Brady Hayes; his siblings: Joyce Monthony of North River and Howard Freebern and his wife, Tobi of Rensselaer; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call on Richard’s family from 12 to 2pm, Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 2 pm at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will follow in North River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital.
