Obituary of Clarence B. Bateman

Johnsburg: Clarence “Bud” Bertran Bateman, 86, of Garnet Lake Rd., passed away peacefully Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home. Born December 12, 1926 in Johnsburg, he was the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy “Hazel” (Cleveland) Bateman. Bud married Jean Marie Richards on his 21st birthday, December 12, 1947. Bud’s working years were quite extensive; he owned and operated the Garnet Lake Dairy, ran an excavating business, was employed by the Town of Johnsburg, and he was the last Fire Warden on top of Gore Mountain. Along with his parents, his life long friends and in-laws, Irving and Mary “Frances” Richards will be welcoming him into heaven, as will his young grandson, Jeffery Bardin and his trusted side-kick, his departed dog, Mini. Bud leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Jean Bateman of Johnsburg; their nine children, Clarence “Butch” Bateman and his wife, Jean of Johnsburg; Barbara O’Dell and her husband, Marvin “Pinky” of Johnsburg; Catherine Fredella of the Endicott/Binghamton area; Coral Bardin and her husband, Bruce, of Hudson Falls; Peggy LaRock of Queensbury; David Bateman and his wife, Lisa of Garnet Lake; Helen Murphy and her husband, Kenneth of Chestertown; James Bateman of Johnsburg; and his exceptional caregiver, Joseph Bateman, also of Johnsburg. He also leaves behind his sisters, Edna Bateman Mosher of Johnsburg, the widow of Henry Mosher; and Anna Bateman Blanchard of Indian Lake, the widow of Albert “Brother” Blanchard; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Bud’s family from 11 am - 1 pm Friday, December 28th at Alexander-Baker Funeral Home, 3809 Main St., Warrensburg. At Bud’s request, everyone should attend in casual attire. A funeral service to celebrate his life will follow the visitation at 1 pm Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Ronald Allen, Pastor of the Sodom Community Church, officiating.
